Inverter package PWM inverter module with integrated DC link and EMC filter. Compressor speed commanded from the water temperature error rather than by on/off cycling. Inverter heatsink temperature monitored with derating on approach to limit.
Compliance CE marked under LVD 2014/35/EU and EMC 2014/30/EU. Harmonic mitigation per IEC 61000-3-12 where required. Refrigerant data sheet per EN 378. RoHS 2 compliant.

This variable speed industrial water chiller uses an inverter-driven scroll compressor so that cooling output follows the plant load continuously rather than switching between full capacity and off. The compressor modulates between 25% and 100% of nominal capacity by varying speed from 1800 to 6000 rpm, with condenser and evaporator fans speed-controlled in coordination.

The configuration is specified where the plant load varies through the day or season, where water temperature stability affects the process, or where the annual energy consumption of the cooling plant is a design consideration. At part load the unit runs at reduced speed rather than cycling, which addresses both efficiency and the mechanical wear associated with frequent compressor starts.

Load Modulation Behaviour

100% load 6000 rpm Compressor at maximum speed. Fans at maximum. Design condition, typically a few hours per year at design ambient.
75% load 4700 rpm Speed reduces with load. Fans modulate. Efficiency is higher than at full load as specific power falls.
50% load 3600 rpm The band where most operating hours fall on a typical plant. Efficiency benefit is greatest here compared with on/off control.
25% load 2400 rpm Minimum continuous speed. Below this the unit cycles at minimum speed with extended off periods rather than running slower.
Below 25% Cycling Load below the minimum continuous speed results in cycling at minimum speed. Confirm the minimum load against the plant profile.

Commercial and Technical Advantages

Part-load efficiency Speed modulation reduces specific power at part load rather than cycling at full capacity. The IPLV reference value of 0.62 kW/kW reflects weighted part-load performance rather than the full-load figure, which is the figure that governs annual energy consumption on most plants.
Tight water temperature control Continuous modulation holds leaving water temperature within ±0.3°C of setpoint. Specified where process temperature affects product quality, measurement accuracy, or equipment performance, and where on/off control would produce a wider band.
Fewer compressor starts Modulation replaces on/off cycling, reducing the number of compressor starts per day. Start count is logged and available via the communication interface, supporting maintenance planning and comparison with fixed-speed installations.
Controlled starting current Inverter soft-start limits starting current to approximately 1.2× nominal, compared with 5× to 7× for direct-on-line fixed-speed compressors. Relevant where the supply capacity is limited or shared with other plant.
Operating data for analysis Modbus RTU registers expose compressor speed, inverter frequency, discharge temperature, suction pressure, water temperatures, and cumulative energy. Data is available for energy reporting and for diagnosing part-load behaviour after installation.
Serviceable inverter module The inverter module is replaceable without opening the refrigeration circuit. Inverter heatsink cleaning is a routine maintenance item and the most common cause of derating in dusty plant rooms.

Deployment Contexts

01 Plants with a varying load profile Facilities where the cooling load drops overnight or at weekends and where a fixed-speed chiller would cycle frequently at low load, losing efficiency and accumulating compressor starts.
02 Temperature-sensitive processes Processes where the coolant temperature affects product quality or equipment performance, and where the ±0.3°C stability of continuous modulation is specified rather than the wider band of on/off control.
03 Energy-limited facilities Plants with energy targets or tariff structures where the annual consumption of the cooling plant matters, and where the part-load performance of the chiller contributes materially to the facility total.
04 Sites with limited supply capacity Installations where the available electrical supply is limited or shared with other plant, and where the reduced starting current of inverter soft-start avoids the need for supply reinforcement.

Selection and Installation Notes

Select on the load profile Part-load efficiency benefit depends on the load profile. Provide the annual or daily load profile so that part-load performance can be compared against a fixed-speed alternative. A variable speed unit sized well above the actual load may operate at its minimum speed for most of the year, where the benefit is reduced.
Minimum load confirmation Below 25% of nominal capacity, the unit cycles at minimum speed rather than modulating further. Where the plant has long periods below this threshold, a smaller unit or a multi-module arrangement should be considered. Provide the minimum sustained load for evaluation.
Harmonic and EMC considerations The inverter includes an EMC filter and harmonic mitigation per IEC 61000-3-12. Where the supply is shared with sensitive equipment or where the site has strict harmonic limits, confirm the installation point requirements and specify additional filtering if needed.
Pump and circuit interface The integrated variable-speed pump matches flow to load. Confirm the equipment-side pressure drop against the pump curve at the required flow. Where the existing circuit has its own pump, the chiller can be supplied without the hydraulic module.
Inverter heatsink environment The inverter heatsink must be kept clean. Dust accumulation on the heatsink is the most common cause of inverter derating in plant rooms. Confirm the plant room environment and include heatsink cleaning in the maintenance schedule.
Maintenance interval Inverter heatsink cleaning quarterly in dusty rooms. Strainer cleaning quarterly. Condenser coil cleaning quarterly. Water quality check annually. Compressor start count and speed log review annually. Refrigerant charge and pressure switch verification annually.

Procurement FAQ

Full-load efficiency describes the unit at design condition, which on most plants occurs for only a few hours per year. IPLV is a weighted figure across part-load conditions and reflects the annual operating pattern more closely. For a variable speed unit, the part-load figure is the more useful measure of energy performance; both are supplied in the technical submittal.

Minimum and maximum speed limits are factory set to protect the compressor and inverter. Site adjustment is not recommended and should only be carried out with factory guidance. The modulation range and speed limits are documented in the submittal so that the operating range is known before installation.

Below the minimum continuous speed, the controller cycles the compressor at minimum speed with extended off periods rather than running slower. This is normal and does not indicate a fault. Where the plant spends long periods below 25% load, a smaller unit or multi-module arrangement should be considered at selection stage.

The inverter includes harmonic mitigation per IEC 61000-3-12. Whether additional filtering is required depends on the site supply characteristics and the presence of other non-linear loads. Where the site has strict harmonic limits, provide the supply details and existing load information for evaluation before installation.

Dimensional drawing, wiring diagram, capacity and power curves across the modulation range, IPLV calculation, inverter and EMC declaration, pump curve, refrigerant data sheet, Modbus register map including speed and energy registers, commissioning checklist, and declaration of conformity under LVD and EMC directives.

Standard warranty is 24 months from commissioning or 30 months from shipment. Compressor and inverter module coverage extends to 60 months. Service parts including compressors, inverter modules, pumps, and controllers are held for a minimum of 10 years. Inverter module replacement does not require opening the refrigeration circuit.
