This industrial chiller is supplied with a stainless steel buffer tank for applications where the wetted circuit must resist corrosion, avoid contamination of the process fluid, or comply with hygiene requirements. The tank, evaporator, and connecting pipework in contact with the process water are stainless steel, with EPDM seals throughout the wetted path.

The configuration is specified for food and beverage processing, pharmaceutical and cosmetic production, laboratory and analytical cooling, and chemical process cooling where the fluid may be mildly aggressive or where carbon steel tanks would introduce contamination or corrosion products into the circuit.

Wetted Circuit Construction

Stainless buffer tank Fabricated from 304 stainless steel as standard, with 316L available for chloride or acidic duty. Internal surfaces finished to a level suited to the application. Fill, drain, and vent points located on the tank exterior.
Stainless evaporator Brazed plate evaporator in stainless steel, selected for the duty and the fluid. Copper-brazed plates are available where the fluid is compatible; nickel-brazed plates are specified where copper contact is not permitted.
Stainless pump parts Centrifugal pump with stainless body and impeller, mechanical seal in EPDM or silicon carbide depending on duty. Pump selected for the flow and head of the specified circuit rather than a general-purpose selection.
Seals and fittings EPDM seals throughout the wetted path, with options for FKM where the fluid requires it. Fittings in stainless steel. The wetted parts list is provided in the submittal for compatibility review against the process fluid.

Commercial and Technical Advantages

Corrosion resistance in the wetted path Stainless tank and evaporator avoid the corrosion of carbon steel or galvanised tanks where the fluid is mildly aggressive or where the circuit is not chemically treated. Relevant where the process fluid is not controlled by a water treatment programme.
Hygienic circuit for food and pharma Stainless wetted surfaces and EPDM seals suit applications where the cooling circuit is subject to hygiene inspection or where contamination of the process fluid is a quality risk. Internal finish can be specified for the application requirement.
304 or 316L selection 304 is adequate for most potable and mildly aggressive fluids. 316L is specified where chlorides or acids are present, or where cleaning chemicals contain chlorides. The grade is selected against the process fluid rather than defaulting to the higher specification.
Documented wetted parts list The submittal includes a complete list of wetted materials for compatibility review against the process fluid, including tank, evaporator, pump, seals, and fittings. This supports process safety and materials review before installation.
Buffer volume for load variation The stainless buffer tank absorbs short-term load variation and reduces compressor cycling. Where the process has batch or intermittent heat loads, the buffer prevents repeated start and stop of the compressor.
Cleanable tank design Access opening and drain point arranged for periodic cleaning of the tank interior. In hygienic applications, tank cleaning is a scheduled maintenance item and the tank design is arranged to make this practical.

Deployment Contexts

01 Food and beverage processing Process cooling where the circuit is subject to hygiene inspection and where stainless wetted surfaces support cleaning and reduce contamination risk.
02 Pharmaceutical and cosmetic production Cooling of process equipment where the wetted materials must be documented for process safety review, and where carbon steel tanks would not be accepted.
03 Laboratory and analytical cooling Laboratories where the cooling circuit supplies instruments and where contamination from a steel or galvanised tank would affect analysis or instrument performance.
04 Mildly aggressive chemical duty Process cooling where the fluid has mild acidity or chloride content that would attack carbon steel, but where the duty does not require a fully exotic alloy circuit.

Selection and Installation Notes

Fluid compatibility review Provide the process fluid composition and concentration for compatibility review against the wetted parts list. 304 is not suitable for sustained chloride exposure; 316L is specified where chlorides are present. Fluids outside the reviewed range require factory evaluation.
Evaporator brazing Copper-brazed plate evaporators are standard where the fluid is compatible. Nickel-brazed plates are specified where copper contact is not permitted, such as certain food-contact or ammonia-adjacent applications. State the requirement at order stage.
Tank cleaning access In hygienic applications, the tank interior must be accessible for periodic cleaning. Confirm the cleaning method and frequency against the access opening and drain arrangement. Where a fully drainable design is required, specify the sloped-bottom option.
Pump and circuit head The pump provides 0.35 MPa at 220 L/min. Confirm that the equipment-side pressure drop plus site pipework losses remain within the available head at the required flow. Where greater head is required, specify the high-head pump at order stage.
Freeze protection Where the circuit is exposed to below-zero ambient during shutdown, glycol is required. Note that glycol selection interacts with seal and evaporator material; state the intended glycol type and concentration at order stage for compatibility confirmation.
Maintenance interval Tank interior inspection and cleaning per the site's hygiene or process schedule, typically annually or per campaign. Strainer cleaning quarterly. Condenser coil cleaning quarterly. Pump seal inspection every 2 years. Refrigerant verification annually.

Procurement FAQ

Specify 316L where the process fluid contains chlorides, where cleaning chemicals contain chlorides, or where the fluid is mildly acidic. 304 is adequate for potable water, demineralised water, and mildly alkaline fluids without chloride content. Provide the fluid composition for confirmation rather than selecting the higher grade by default.

The tank, evaporator plates, pump body and impeller, and fittings are stainless steel. The evaporator brazing alloy is copper as standard, or nickel where specified. Seals are EPDM or FKM. A complete wetted parts list is provided in the submittal for review against the process fluid.

The standard internal finish suits most process and hygiene applications. Where a specific surface roughness or a fully drainable sloped bottom is required, this can be specified at order stage. Confirm the requirement against the application's hygiene or process standard before ordering.

Dimensional drawing, wiring diagram, capacity table against water temperature, pump curve, complete wetted parts list with material grades, tank material certificate where required, refrigerant data sheet, Modbus register map, and declaration of conformity under LVD and EMC directives.

A cooling-only variant is available for connection to an existing stainless circuit. Where the tank and pump are omitted, performance figures refer to the chiller section and the interface conditions must be verified by the installer against the existing circuit. The wetted parts of the chiller section remain stainless.

Standard warranty is 24 months from commissioning or 30 months from shipment. Compressor coverage extends to 60 months. Warranty on the tank and evaporator is conditional on the process fluid being within the reviewed compatibility range. Pump seals and strainer elements are wear items. Service parts are held for a minimum of 10 years.
